Free ways to discover Delhi

Although Delhi can be a reasonably expensive city, there are still lots of things to do in capital city of India that don't require you to shell out even a rupee. From wandering through the labyrinth that is Hauz Khas Village in South Delhi, to admiring the ruins scattered across the green expanse of Lodhi Gardens, listening to a melodic and soothing kirtan at the Damdama Sahib Gurdwara, and jostling your way through hordes of devotees at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah—some of the best experiences in Delhi don't cost a thing. We tell you where to go to discover the city absolutely free of cost under domestic tour packages in India.

* Jama Masjid - The largest mosque in India, Jama Masjid rivals the grandeur of the neighboring Red Fort in its scale and beauty.

* Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya dargah - Revered by music lovers and the devout alike, this living heritage site houses the tomb of the medieval Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya.

* India Gate - Originally built as a memorial to the Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War, India Gate is now Delhi’s most-loved public space.

* Gurdwara Damdama Sahib - Located close to Nizamuddin, Gurdwara Damdama Sahib is not as popular as Bangla Sahib in central Delhi, and that’s exactly what makes it a better option.

* Hauz Khas Complex - Once you’re done exploring the nooks and crannies of Hauz Khas Village, venture just beyond and through an old iron gate to be transported into another era.

* Lodhi Gardens - This sprawling green oasis in Central Delhi is dotted with medieval tombs, mosques, bridges and watchtowers built by the Lodhi and the Sayyid dynasties, which ruled over Delhi in the 15th century.

Indians prefer foreign holiday tours - Travel Trends 2014

Traveling to international destinations for a holiday is the flavor this summer amongst Indians, according to a new trend report. Global travel search site Skyscanner released a series of travel trends, which show that Indians are keen to escape from the scorching heat and are turning to overseas travel this summer season.

While international destinations have seen a whopping 101 percent growth in volume searches, findings for domestic destinations have seen a rise of 60 percent over January to April 2014 compared to the same period last year, said a statement.

Now days, Indians have become more experimental when it comes to traveling. In the spirit of exploration, they are looking for longer, more expensive trips and are searching for newer destinations.

Morocco, Bhutan, Greenland, Thailand and UAE are Indians’ most popular summer holiday destinations this year. Also, Croatia’s glamor and old-fashioned authenticity makes it one of the most popular European countries amongst Indians.

Skyscanner’s data suggests that Indian travelers are becoming increasingly adventurous with their travel choices.

Bhutan, a popular but remote backpacking route located at the eastern end of the Himalayas, has witnessed a staggering 244 percent increase in overall searches. Another destination that has gained attraction amongst destination searches is Morocco, witnessing a 261 percent increase in searches compared to last year over the same period.

Known for its Roman architecture, serene coastal landscape and mountains, Croatia emerged to be one of the most searched European countries with a year on year growth of 152 percent.

Far Northern European countries including Greenland and Iceland emerged as exotic summer getaway options with a 210 percent year on year growth.

Within India, travelers are looking at exploring destinations such as Srinagar, Goa, Kochi and Port Blair.

Skyscanner’s trend conclusions are based on consumer search data for flights on the company's website in between January and April 2013 and the same period in 2014.
